Recently the 7th graders took a field trip to Jefferson City to tour the capitol and the Missouri State Penitentiary. Representative Ann Kelley and Johanna Henry were their tour guides at the capitol. Students enjoyed seeing the Governor’s office, the State Seal, the House and Senate, the Secretary of State’s office, documents from the State Archives, the House Lounge, the Whispering Gallery, and the view from the top of the dome. At the penitentiary students visited two cell buildings, heard about many former inmates, and toured the gas chamber. The tour guide was a former maintenance man of the penitentiary who shared funny stories from his days working there. The sponsors of the trip were Mr. Brad Burton and Mrs. Renee Burton.
