Sunday, March 17, 2024, through Tuesday, March 19, 2024, Octavio Anaya,

Baylea Conroy, Cera Dickerson, and Shalynn Mallory accompanied by Mrs. Nora

McCready-(Bullinger) attended the 2024 Family, Career and Community Leaders of

America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference at Margaritaville Resort and

Conference Center located in Osage Beach. Almost 1,600 delegates from across the

state represented more than 8,600 members of Missouri FCCLA.

The conference centered on the student-developed theme “Missouri FCCLA: Out

of this World” representing how Missouri FCCLA members are launching their

leadership to new levels. This coincided with the National theme this year of "The

Ultimate Journey"; which is about growth, both personal and professional. It is about

embracing challenges, seizing opportunities, and honing the skills and qualities that will

propel students forward. FCCLA is unique among student organizations because

projects and events--such as the State Leadership Conference-- are planned and run by

its student members.

FCCLA Officer Cera Dickerson reports:

On Sunday, we listened to this year’s guest speaker, Dr. Laymon Hicks, author,

speaker, life coach, and entrepreneur. Dr. Hicks talked about the three points to live by:

1) Be positive, 2) Get up, get out, and go get what you want, and 3) Neutralize the

weapon of destruction in your life.

Monday, Octavio Anaya competed in the STAR Event by creating a portfolio and

presenting a speech on the process of becoming a Registered Nurse, which is his

current goal after high school. Octavio earned a bronze rating and shared his thoughts,

“Our time at state was a very memorable experience. Getting to compete was very

exhilarating and meeting new and interesting people is always a plus! State was a very

cool experience, and I hope to hold onto these memories for a long time to come”.

We are proud of Octavio’s accomplishments and wish him well on his Ultimate Journey.

Baylea, Shalynn and I (Cera) took part in different Leadership Workshops while

Octavio was competing in his STAR event. The following are the workshops we

attended:

Kids Feeding Kids provides materials and funding to help FCCLA members with service

leadership projects that alleviate food insecurity and hunger in their local communities.

Our advisor is looking into attending the program this summer to bring back resources

to our chapter.

Leadership versus Management discovers the key differences between a leader and a

manager and how your influence affects your team. The highlight of the workshop was a

discussion on positive thinking and how negative leadership brings those around you

down.

Simple Actions Save Lives is working to reduce the number of car fatalities in Missouri

and highlighted programs every teen should know. We plan to collaborate with our

advisor, counselor and school administrators to bring traffic safety programs and

workshops to the Greenfield School District.

Lacing up for Change, Shoes from the Heart provides new tennis shoes to children in

need without any qualifications, no matter the situation the child/children are in. We

discussed how they could help us implement our chapter service project that we

presented at Regional Competition, in which we plan to take donated clothing to mend

and offer to those in need for job interviews.

Your Journey of Gratitude was an interactive and engaging workshop to help us

understand the importance of gratitude and how it progresses our personal growth and

leadership development. We were given the opportunity to write a letter to someone

who we were grateful for. All of us that attended the workshop chose to sign a note of

appreciation to our Advisor Nora McCready for encouraging us to join FCCLA and step

out of our comfort zones.

On Tuesday, we participated in our Region 11 meeting, STAR events recognition

session, installation of new officers and the closing session. Octavio Anaya received a

bronze medal for his Career Investigation event. We are so proud of him for getting as

far as he did and having the confidence to go through! Congratulations to those going

on to Nationals representing Region 11.
