On Friday January 6th, hundreds of junior high band students from across southwest Missouri traveled to Joplin High School to audition for the prestigious SWMMEA Junior High Honor Bands. Greenfield Junior High student Skyler Robinson was selected to be a part of the 8th grade honor band as a clarinet player.
Just over a week later, on January 14th, the Junior High Honor Band met at Webb City High School to rehearse for their concert that night. The band was under the direction of Dr. Mark Bonner, the Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Central Missouri. The band worked all day to get a concert ready to perform that evening.
That evening, they played their concert for a packed audience.
When asked about the experience, Skyler said that the band sounded really good with more people in it. He remarked that the rehearsals were a lot of fun and that he enjoyed working under the conductor and meeting new people.
Congratulations Skyler on such a remarkable achievement!
