Band Karate is a program to help create more independent, sensitive, and confident student musicians. 5th Grade band students, at the Greenfield Elementary, have started this new motivational program to encourage and promote the love for music.
Student musicians learn specified songs from their band book. At the end of every class, students have the opportunity to test for a belt. In order to receive the belt, they must successfully perform each song under the belt color with accurate notes, rhythms, and good sound. Just like in Karate, students start with earning their white belt and go all the way up to black belt! When a student musician earns a belt, they receive a ribbon in that belt color to put on the outside of their instrument case. If you see 5th grade band student with belts on their cases, make sure you congratulate them on their hard work and improvement on their instrument! .
Band Karate Masters know what good tone sounds like and aren't afraid to play solos. Student musicians are expected to practice the songs at home, although we initially learn them together in class. Encourage your 5th grade band member by asking them to play some Band Karate songs for you.
