Aiden Bowles, an eighth grader at Greenfield Jr. High, was honored on April 25, 2019, at the Writers Hall of Fame Student Awards Banquet for his award-winning poem, “The Pigs.” After Aiden’s limerick placed first in the 7-8 division of the Language Arts Department (LAD) contest, it was then chosen as the “best of the best” in strict formula poetry from six combined categories in grades 7 and 8.
The Writers Hall of Fame organization of Springfield supports the voices of young people in grades 5-12 by celebrating their accomplishments from the LAD Fair. At the banquet Aiden was recognized and received a certificate of accomplishment while David Harrison, award-winning author and sought-after keynote speaker, read Aiden’s poem aloud. As with any good limerick, Aiden’s words filled the room with laughter.
Attending the banquet with Aiden were his aunt, Sarah Moller; his language arts teacher, Renee Burton, who submitted his poem; and his history teacher, Brad Burton.
